The area postrema (AP) is a highly vascular paired structure in the medulla oblongata in the brainstem. AP has been implicated as a chemoreceptor trigger zone for vomiting (emesis) for over 40 years.
The immunoreactivity of tyrosine hydroxylase (red) shows catecholaminergic (CA) neurons in the AP contribute to stimuli signal deficient glucose provision to the brain.
